This course is created under the Committing to Sustainable Waste Actions in the Pacific (SWAP) Project funded through Agence Française de Développement (AFD). SWAP offers this training course to Pacific people who have interests on waste management. The course is intended to provide comprehensive knowledge on the concept and practical applications and benefits of sustainable financing mechanisms with consideration on the unique conditions of the Pacific Region. Over four weeks, you’ll learn about the best practice sustainable financing mechanisms which worked well in some countries in the Pacific and elsewhere. You’ll also learn how to design and implement a sustainable financing solution in the Pacific context using tools which can be used to guide the process.
The oil and gas industry plays a crucial role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (SDG). The improper disposal of used oil has the potential to harm the environment. The safe and effective disposal of used oils can protect both human health and the environment. The "Used Oil Management" course is developed as part of the Committing to Sustainable Waste Actions in the Pacific (SWAP) Project, which is funded through Agence Française de Développement (AFD). SWAP offers this training course to Pacific residents with an interest in used oil management. The course aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of used oil issues and the need for its management in order to meet the SDGs. Over the course of four weeks, you will learn about used oil spills and their environmental consequences. You will also learn about oil spill monitoring and treatment options, such as reuse and recycling of used oil. The components of the National Management Plan for used oil management will also be discussed, which will assist you in designing and implementing a sustainable management plan in the Pacific context using tools to guide the process.
Course 4 is intended to provide comprehensive knowledge on the disaster waste management concept and practical applications and benefits of improving disaster waste management with consideration on the unique conditions of the Pacific Region. Over four weeks, you’ll learn about the disaster management cycle, disaster waste streams, and best practice of disaster waste management adopted by some countries in the Pacific and elsewhere.
